Where this fits

Climate grief is a life transition too. Even when no one names it.

Grief for the world is not a separate category from grief for a person. It is the same human work. Loss of a future you expected. Loss of places, seasons, species, certainty. The slow question that climbs into the back of every other one: who am I now, in a world like this?

Climate Aware Therapy is one doorway into the larger work I do, alongside Nature-Based Therapy and Groups. If you are walking through this threshold, you do not have to do it alone.

The Weight You Carry

Right now, suffering is all around us.

We are surrounded by political turmoil, injustice, and natural disasters. Wildfires swallow towns. Floods reshape coastlines. Species vanish quietly while the news cycle moves on. And somewhere inside you, a signal keeps firing that something is deeply, fundamentally wrong.

You are not broken for feeling this. You are paying attention.

But the weight accumulates. The dread that settles in your chest with another wildfire, another flood. The guilt of going about your day while ecosystems collapse. The loneliness of caring deeply in spaces where no one else seems to notice.

“How do we stay grounded in uncertain times?”

A Different Kind of Therapy

There is a way forward, but there is no map.

Climate Aware Therapy does not treat your grief about the world as a symptom to manage. It treats it as an intelligent response to reality, one that deserves space, witness, and skilled navigation.

Most therapy approaches were designed for a stable world. They help you adapt to circumstances, build coping skills, return to baseline. But what happens when the baseline itself is shifting? When the source of your distress is not a personal failure but a planetary crisis?

This is where Climate Aware Therapy begins. It holds space for the full scope of what you are feeling, the grief, the rage, the helplessness, without rushing you toward false positivity or numbing solutions.

Navigating uncertainty with clarity and presence.

The capacity to see clearly in the dark. To navigate uncertainty without abandoning either intellectual honesty or emotional presence. It is not optimism. It is not denial. It is the hard-won ability to stay open to reality while remaining capable of meaningful action.

Is This You?

You don't need a diagnosis. You need a witness.

Climate Aware Therapy may be right for you if any of these feel familiar:

You feel a persistent dread about the future that you cannot shake.

You grieve for places, species, or seasons that are disappearing.

You feel guilty for enjoying your life while knowing what is happening to the planet.

You have pulled away from news or activism because the pain became too much.

You struggle with decisions because the future feels so uncertain.

You feel alone in the depth of your caring.

You want to act but feel paralyzed between urgency and helplessness.

The Work

Therapy that meets the whole of you.

Processing Climate Grief

We give your grief the room it needs. Not to fix it, but to metabolize it, so it moves through you rather than settling into your body as chronic tension, numbness, or despair.

Values Clarification

When the world feels chaotic, your values become your compass. We identify what matters most to you as a lived, daily practice that grounds your choices.

Body-Mind-Spirit Integration

Climate distress lives in the body as much as the mind. We work somatically, through breath, movement, and awareness, to release what words alone cannot reach.

From Paralysis to Purposeful Action

The goal is not to do everything. It is to find the actions that are authentically yours, the ones that restore agency without leading to burnout.

Building Resilience Without Denial

True resilience does not require you to look away. It requires you to develop the capacity to hold difficulty and beauty at the same time.

Community

Laurie works with young adults at local colleges, facilitating groups on climate distress and resilience. She also hosts Climate Cafes: informal, facilitated gatherings where people come together to share their feelings, fears, hopes, and experiences about the climate crisis in a supportive, non-judgmental space.

An online group option is in development and expected within the next six months.

Why I Do This Work

I didn't just study climate awareness. I chose it.

In 2023, my family left the San Francisco Bay Area — a place we loved deeply — and moved to Ithaca, New York. It was not a career move. It was a values decision. We came here to adjust to climate change and embrace a simpler lifestyle. To raise our son closer to the rhythms of the natural world, in a community that takes sustainability seriously.

That decision cost us convenience, proximity to family, a life we had built over decades. It also gave us something we did not know we needed: alignment between what we believe and how we live.

I bring that lived experience into the therapy room. I am not someone who read about climate distress in a textbook. I am someone who reorganized her entire life around it. I understand what it means to grieve a place, a future, a version of reality — and to build something meaningful in its absence.
